I’m Back from USA and Have Lots For You!

Posted by Stelios Eleftheriou on May 20th, 2008

I’m finally back emailing you from Cyprus.

I haven’t emailed you for ages… as most of you
know I went to USA to attend the Mass Control
Seminar.

In this blog post I’ll tell you:

- How the seminar went and my biggest tip from it
- Show you pictures from my trip to USA
- What’s in store for the future
===================================================
HOW THE SEMINAR WENT AND MY BIGGEST TIP FROM IT
——————————————–

The seminar was great with awesome speakers…
Frank Kern, Eben Pagan, Jeff Walker, Jason Moffatt,
Bob Serling, John Carlton as well some guest-speakers
like Ed Dale, Mike Filsaime and more.

I enjoyed the seminar’s content a lot and got the
chance to network with some very cool marketers.

Here’s the biggest tip I got out of the seminar:

You need to focus and be good at
             1 single specific thing!

Yes, I hear you… “duh, focus - that’s common sense”.

Here’s my definition of *focus* in this context:

Become an expert in one thing e.g SEO, Adwords etc
and have everything else you are doing revolve
around that.

In other words, it doesn’t mean you have to quit
being an affiliate marketer if you decide to master
Adwords - you can incorporate affiliate marketing
and list building into your Adwords promotions.

It does mean you shouldn’t be buying and trying
everything under the sun which is totally unrelated
to Adwords. e.g Craigslist, Bum Marketing etc

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR THE FUTURE
—————————————

It seems I have fallen off the face of the earth for
the past month.

As much as I would like to tell you that I’m this
big guru, who never makes mistakes and never screws
up… that would be a total lie.

I’m not a guru and I screw up all the time.

I do make a living online and have figured out some
things on the way - which I’ll be sharing more of
in the future.

But my main point is that I’m a regular person like
you who is screwing up and fails more often than I
care to admit :)

As long as we learn from our mistakes and bounce
back by not repeating them and keep doing what works
then it’s all good in my book.

Now that we’ve established that I’m a total idiot
at times - here are 3 things I will be focusing
in the future (and I suggest you do too):

1. Find a market that is already buying stuff
and sell them what they are already buying
(idea stolen from Frank Kern and tested thoroughly)

2. Build lists in markets where they are already
buying stuff and sell them more related stuff
(idea stolen from Allen Says and tested thoroughly)

3. Drink a lot of beer and eat like there’s no
tomorrow

One of the above 3 things is optional - you
choose which one.

I like to do stuff the easy way so for #1 (find
a market that is already buying stuff…) I just
browse Clickbank’s categories and find markets
which have lots of products in the top selling
positions (i.e high gravity and high referred %)

For #2 there are tons of stuff you can do to
build huge email lists and follow up with them
to sell them stuff - while giving them good value.

This is what I will be focusing in the future:

1. Give you freebies that show you how to build
your lists

2. Give you freebies that you can give away to
build your lists

3. Show you what to say in your emails so that
you can make more sales from your lists

If you do not have a list and are weirded out
at the thought of having one, just know this:

- What’s the worst that can happen?

You totally screw up and people make fun of
you (it happens to me all the time)

Some people buy. Some make fun of you.

You get better.  More people buy from you.

Some people still make fun of you.

The more money you make the more you laugh
at the people making fun of you (this is
a scientific formula)

Following up and doing a really bad job at it
is way better than not following up at all.

Anyway, I think you’ve had enough of me for
today so I’ll end this right here.

Have a great day!

Talk soon,

Stelios

P.S I promised you a picture kissing the Vegas
ground like the Pope does. Here it is :)

Great post and really to the point. Not much point speading your energy over a lot of different areas when one can be a success if total focus is on it.

Mailing lists are something that I have not begun as yet, Aweber only takes credit card payments an I don’t have one, No paypal option rules me out.

Look foward to seeing your future posts.

Apart from kissing the ground - I need all the advice in here!

Especially points 1 and 2 above

As usual, good stuff, plain and simple. Your emails are of the few that I open and read. What I have learned from you is that in establishing a relationship with your list, giving free info of Value, builds trust and that is what I am doing, having learned this approach from you although I have never heard you day this; you just do it. Keep up the good work, you have a fan here.
To the gentleman without a credit card, you can open a checking account and you will get a visa debit card that can be used just like a credit card. Banks no longer deny checking accounts because of past credit problems.

    Hi Stelios:

I appreciate your honesty that you too have had failures….certainly can relate to that.

Liked your to the point comments…with all the informatin out there it is easy Not to stayed focused on one’s goals.

I will look forward to more of your posts!

    Thanks!

It is great to focus on list building.

But the most important point is, how can you get free or “not-expensive” traffic to your squeeze page?

Of course you can say PPC. But actually it will cost too much money. What I mean is free or “not-expensive” traffic.

If you can solve this puzzle with your members. I’m sure that all of your subscribers will love your posts and come to your blog regularly.

It is not difficult to prepare a squeeze page, to prepare an Aweber account, to prepare the follow up messages, BUT, how can you get huge of visitors to your squeeze page to sign up for your list?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone… I really appreciate them.

“What I have learned from you is that in establishing a relationship with your list, giving free info of Value, builds trust and that is what I am doing, having learned this approach from you although I have never heard you day this; you just do it”

Thanks Clarence - they say actions speak louder than words (or in Internet marketing, watch what other marketers do rather than what they say).

Also, great advise you gave for our friend Ian. I realize there are stumbling blocks like that one but there’s more often than not an easy solution if we try a bit harder.

I agree it’s not difficult for me and you but different people are at different skill levels. So we can point them at the right direction to learn to do the minimum technical stuff required… because at the end of the day we are marketers not programmers.

Yes, building traffic is the million dollar question. I can list lots of different ways that you can get traffic like article marketing, SEO, ppc, facebook and other web 2.0 etc.

    However, I would rather say:

    1. Be where your market hangs out (i.e if your market is geared towards senior people you might have a hard time trying to get traffic from Facebook as it’s mostly being used by younger ones)

    2. Do the activities that give you the most leverage. If you are good with PPC then do that. If you’d rather focus on SEO do it but outsource the time consuming tasks. Don’t spend all day posting in forums just because it’s free. Free is not actually free because you are using up your time. You can do that initially but you should always be trying to trade money for your time so you can get the most leverage (i.e profits/subscribers) out of your time.

    I hope this helped.

  8. Hilal Says:

    Stelios,

Thank you very much for your valuable comments.
But the problem of getting huge traffic is not solved yet.

What I mean here is, if you can offer your subscribers a free or a (not-expensive) course in videos and printed materials to get traffic to their squeeze page, this of course will solve most of their problems.

Gurus know the solution of this puzzle, but NO-ONE can tell you about it. They say only few words, which never work with young marketers.

I agree completely with you that, “free things are not free”. But what is the generic solution? PPC? If you start a PPC advertising, you need to pay $100s, or $1000s every month with the hope to find a small list of subscribers. There is NO guarantee to find anyone of them buy from your One Time Offer, just to cover the advertising cost.

I’m sorry to say all of this. But believe me my friend. There is a problem in getting visitors to your squeeze page. If we can solve it, sure we will succeed in this area.

Again thank you very much for your valuable comments.

I’ll do that as well then :)

“I’m sorry to say all of this. But believe me my friend. There is a problem in getting visitors to your squeeze page. If we can solve it, sure we will succeed in this area.”

If you can get traffic to a product in a market that noone wants to spend money for, I guarantee you won’t succeed.

you’re a man of your word. thanks for all the helpful information you pass on to your subscribers. But, need help on this…I bought a website template, have FTP software, made some changes to the web site template, but having problems uploading those changes to be reflected on my website. I make my changes to the template via Macromedia Dreamweaver. But when I go to my hosting site (Gator), then to public_html folder, etc., only parts of the template displays properly on the web site. Can you help?????

  12. Stelios Eleftheriou Says:

    Hi Mary,

It’s probably an issue of not uploading all the images or uploading in a different folder(directory) than what you have in your html.

    Here’s a video I did on ftp:

    http://www.imsuccessguide.com/howtoftp-video.html

If you are still having problems your web host should be able to help you out. If they don’t just post a link to the page and we’ll have a look.
